Maggie Vandewalle recalls a childhood divided between two passions-an insatiable love of reading and a profound fascination for the natural world. These early interests are the foundation for her paintings of whimsical creatures whose antics often bring a smile or a feeling that one has walked into the middle of a remarkable journey.
The whimsical illustration captures that childhood wonder perfectly—the blend of books and butterflies makes it feel personal, not just pretty. It’s the kind of card you’d frame after sending, and the paper quality holds up to a handwritten note without smudging.
The artwork on this card is gorgeous, especially the detailed birds perched on the branches. I framed it instead of sending it because it felt too pretty to tuck into an envelope.
Sent this to my birdwatching-obsessed mom and she immediately framed it instead of putting it away with the other cards. The illustration has this soft, storybook quality that really shows the artist's love of the natural world. Paper's a nice weight too, no flimsy bending in the mail.
