Jeg ankom til Wineglass Bay aftenen før for at studere tidevandet og planlægge en komposition til mit solopgangsbillede. Jeg valgte dette sted, hvor lavvande blotlagde og fremhævede den klippefyldte strandbred. Da daggryet nærmede sig, var jeg så betaget af synet af den enorme gyldne kugle, der dukkede op over horisonten, at jeg næsten glemte at tage billedet! Scenen ændrede sig hundrede gange, efterhånden som det stærkere sollys oplyste klippernes overflade, og tidevandets ebbe og flod skvulpede over dem. Mens scenen udfoldede sig foran mig, forestillede jeg mig Moder Natur strække sine arme ud mod den nye dag og følte mig virkelig privilegeret over at være vidne til dette smukke skue.
