My dog actually wears this for our whole summit push and doesn't try to yank it off, which says a lot. Soaking it in the stream took ten seconds and you could feel the cooler air coming off his neck when we stopped for photos.

The soak-and-tie trick works exactly as described, and my pup stayed noticeably calmer on our last sunny hike. Even got a cute summit photo with it draped around his neck, no complaints from him.

My golden retriever actually drank from the stream mid-hike with this still around her neck, and the damp fabric kept her panting down for a solid two hours after. The tie stays snug without choking her on the steep switchbacks.
