I've crocheted a few kids' sweaters before and this one surprised me — starting at the shoulders and working down means way less counting for me and no seaming at all. My 7-year-old wore it two days straight, and the yoke actually sits right instead of slipping off.

Knitting this up in one piece from the shoulders down was such a relief after years of seaming sweaters, and the saddle shape gives the shoulders a nice bit of room to grow. Only thing is the sizing runs a touch big around the chest, so I'd size down if your kid is between sizes.
