I was worried a high-gloss finish would look cheap, but the depth it pulls out of the oak grain is genuinely beautiful. The lacquer also wipes clean with a damp cloth, so fingerprints and spills are no fuss.
The glossy lacquer on the oak has this depth that really shifts depending on the light, way warmer than the matte finish I had before. Ran a cloth over it after a dinner party and it wiped clean in seconds, no rings left behind.
I was worried glossy would look cheap, but the lacquer on this oak has real depth to it. The grain still shows through and the warm tone matches my other wood furniture better than I expected.
