The oil finish brings out a warmth in the walnut that I didn't expect from a veneer this thin. It took the finish evenly with no blotching, which was my main worry. Grain pattern varies nicely panel to panel too.

The grain on this walnut veneer is way richer in person than the photos suggested, and the oil finish gives it a soft satin sheen instead of that plastic-y gloss. Wiped it down with a damp cloth after a month and it still looks like the day it arrived.

I was worried the oil finish would look greasy, but it just makes the walnut feel warm and almost touchable. The thin veneer still reads as real wood, not a printed layer, which is exactly what I wanted for the shelf.
