Aventon Level 4 REC

Aventon's Level 4 REC is a step-over commuter built around a 750 W rear hub motor, a 733 Wh battery, a coil fork and a suspension seatpost. Regenerative braking sends some energy back to the battery as you slow down, and a throttle comes standard.

Highlights

• Rear hub motor: rated 750 W with a 1188 W peak and 80 Nm of torque; Boost Mode raises that to 1440 W and 96 Nm for up to 30 s at a time.
• 733 Wh battery: 36V 20Ah with LG 21700 cells, removable from the frame, rated by the brand for up to 121 km in Eco pedal assist; a full charge takes about 5 h.
• Sensor switch and throttle: swap the assist between torque and cadence sensing, or ride on the throttle (see how torque and cadence sensors differ).
• Speed: set to 32 km/h out of the box and convertible to a 45 km/h top speed, by the brand's figure.
• Comfort and stopping: an 80 mm coil fork with preload and lockout, a 50 mm suspension seatpost, and Tektro HD-E3520 2-piston hydraulic discs with motor cut-off on 180 mm rotors.
• Daily kit: rear rack, fenders, integrated lights, 4G/GPS tracking, Shimano Altus 8-speed (12–32T) and 27.5 x 2.2 in Kenda Kwick Seven-5 Sport tires; 136 kg maximum load, 31.1 kg bike weight. Aventon lists the e-bike system as certified to UL 2849.
