この驚くべきインディアンの洞窟は、切り立った崖の側面にぴったりと組み込まれています。内部の天井は、数え切れないほどの焚き火の煙で黒ずんでおり、周囲にナバホ族の精神を感じ取ることができました。天井の岩の模様は、近づく雷雨のように見え、動きのある感覚を生み出しています。曇りの日だったおかげで、対照的な真昼の光を均一にすることができ、このイメージは私が感じた力強い部族の存在感を完璧に伝えています。
The soot on the ceiling of that cliff cave tells you everything about how long people sheltered here. I spent a good twenty minutes just staring up, trying to picture all those fires. Easily the highlight of my whole Utah trip.
Standing inside that blackened cave, I kept looking up at the ceiling and thinking about how many fires must have burned in there over the centuries. The location alone, tucked into that sheer cliff face, makes the whole trip worth it.
