ジャニス・ジョプリン、ロイヤル・アルバート・ホール、1969年

I was a bit worried the photo might feel flat in black and white, but the contrast and detail of her expression at the Royal Albert Hall are so vivid it practically pulls you into the crowd.

This black and white print captures her raw energy so perfectly—you can almost feel the crowd's energy from that night. The paper has a nice matte finish that really makes the shadows pop. I've got it framed above my turntable and it feels like the room has a voice now.

That throaty growl comes right back to me every time I look at this photo, the black and white grain making it feel like I'm actually in the crowd that night. It's the kind of print that makes you stop whatever you're doing and just listen to the silence for a second.
