저는 이 놀라운 예술 작품의 단순함과 수제 느낌에 계속해서 끌립니다. 그것과 연결되어 있다는 느낌을 받습니다. 수천 개의 리벳으로 고정된 금속 상자들의 벌집 구조 주위에 의도적으로 배치된 알루미늄 시트 하나하나가 그렇습니다. 이 비행기를 만든 전설적인 사람들은 진정한 장인이었습니다!  

1940년대에 많은 DC-3가 전시용으로 징집되었고, 저는 조종사들이 이륙 전에 느꼈을 신비감을 포착하고 싶었습니다. 이날의 하늘은 그 비전을 만들기에 완벽한 미학이었습니다. 멀리서 보면 미지의 세계를 닮은 불길한 구름과, 그 구름을 뚫고 나오기 시작하는 희망의 빛줄기가 보입니다. 이 후방 각도에서 보면, 미래가 어떻게 될지 모른 채 대기권으로 날아오르는 것이 어떤 느낌일지 거의 상상할 수 있습니다. 그 비행기 자체는 전투에 나가려는 군인과 같아서, 하늘의 거센 바람을 가르며 활공하도록 완벽하게 유선형으로 공기역학적으로 단조되었습니다. 저는 이 기계의 영혼을 거의 느낄 수 있습니다 – 용감하고, 위엄 있으며, 조국에 봉사할 준비가 되어 있습니다.
