도시의 언어

I’m only a few chapters in, but the way Sudjic traces how a city’s identity shifts with its architecture already has me looking at my own neighborhood differently. The global examples feel fresh, not like a textbook. Exactly the kind of perspective I wanted before my next trip.

Sudjic pulls examples from Tokyo, Lagos, and Detroit to show how cities are less about buildings than about the people fighting over them, which completely changed how I see my own commute. It’s dense enough that I have to put it down and think, but that’s exactly why I keep picking it back up.

I’ve been reading it in small chunks before bed, and the way it weaves global examples into a bigger story about how cities actually work keeps pulling me back in. It’s dense but never dry—perfect for anyone who’s ever wondered why a street feels the way it does.
