Inspired by an Abra smock from the period, the Zaraband ikat features delicate tonal transitions that echo the elegant patterns of silk Abra kurtas, which were once worn exclusively by aristocratic women to display both wealth and power.

I was worried the red would read too bright, but the tonal shifts in this ikat are so subtle it looks almost hand-painted in person. The 20cm size sits perfectly on my bedside lamp, and the linen has a nice weighty feel without blocking too much light.

The gathered linen throws the light in this really soft, dappled way that a smooth shade never did, and the tonal ikat transitions are subtle enough to read almost as one colour from across the room. Twenty centimetres turned out to be the right size for my small bedside lamp too.
