Category: Goodee

Handmade in Japan by fifth-generation craftsmen in Miki, Hyogo Prefecture, this beautifully simple blue steel Higonokami folding knife is all about function, form, and heritage. No frills here — just a single, wickedly sharp blue steel blade housed in a solid brass handle that starts out bright and golden, then slowly ages into a rich, lived-in patina.

The blade’s blue steel core includes a touch of chromium, giving it excellent kirenaga (that’s edge retention), so it stays sharper for longer — perfect for everything from opening boxes and letters to a spot of whittling in the garden.

Built with a stiff, sturdy action that loosens over time (and can be tightened with a well-placed tap on the rivet), it’s a practical, pocket-sized tool that’s as satisfying to use as it is to look at.

Picked this up as a gift and ended up keeping it for myself. The blade takes a razor edge and the friction-fit handle means no lock to fiddle with, just open and cut. You can feel the handwork in the little uneven grind marks.

Victoria ★★★★★

The blade arrives impossibly sharp, and the blue steel edge has held up through a week of breaking down boxes without needing a touch-up. There’s something satisfying about the simple friction lock and the brass handle warming in your palm. For under seventy-five bucks, you’re holding a piece of rea

The blue steel blade takes a razor edge and the friction-fit handle feels solid in hand, no lock needed. Only knock is the lack of a pocket clip, so it just rides loose in my pocket. Still a lovely little piece of craftsmanship for the price.
