"We were on tour when Chris and I received a call from Chris’ mother, Stel. She said something along the lines of “Now, don’t be concerned but your house just burned down.” The small loft that we lived in was on 17th Street off Sixth Avenue. We never knew if the fire was the result of electrical failure or somehow the out-come of "human intervention". Anyway, we were friends with the woman who lived downstairs and she had loaned us this dress that was “allegedly" worn by Marilyn Monroe on-screen. When we finally got back to the place, the kitchen, which had received the brunt of the fire department’s attention, was piled with debris. After some clearing out, Chris took this picture of me “cooking” in the burnt dress… so there you have it… and if I ever write a cookbook, this will be the cover photo!" -- Debbie Harry

Debbie with frying pan and dress in the 17th Street apartment (that she shared with Chris Stein) after a fire, c. 1977. The dress was allegedly worn by Marilyn Monroe on screen in The Seven Year Itch.

I’ve stared at this print for twenty minutes straight — the way the light hits the frying pan and her expression feels like you’re in that tiny NYC loft with her. The archival quality is obvious up close, and even the texture of the paper adds to the 1977 vibe. It’s my favorite thing on my wall now.

Avery V. ★★★★★

The grain in this print captures the raw energy of that era perfectly—the way the light hits the pan makes you feel like you're right there in the kitchen. It’s become the centerpiece of my living room wall, and every time I look at it, I imagine the chaos of that phone call from Stel.

Violet C. ★★★★☆

The backstory printed on the back really adds a lot of depth to the image—I find myself reading it every time I walk by. It’s a great conversation piece, though I wish the print were a bit larger for the price.
