Aspen, Colorado
Getting the ultimate aspen shot looks so easy, but to find perfect white straight trunks with peaking color has been one of my greatest challenges. I also wanted depth, a tunnel effect, leading your eye into the shot. I also needed overcast skies with a shift of light to give the shot a nice fell.

After 12 days straight I reckon I looked at every birch tree in Colorado! Finally I felt right at this cluster. It was a crisp overcast fall morning, the smell of the forest floor filled my lungs and the trees stood in absolute silence. I knew that I had the ultimate aspen shot.

The white trunks standing straight against that fall color are exactly what I've been trying to capture in Aspen for years and never quite managed. The depth in the print makes it feel like you could walk right into the trees.

The tunnel effect in this print pulls me straight down the path between those white trunks, and the orange canopy above feels like it's glowing. I've tried shooting this exact scene myself in Aspen and never got the depth right, so having it on my wall is honestly a relief.

I've spent three seasons hunting for that perfect line of white trunks with autumn color, and this finally delivers the depth I couldn't achieve in person. The composition pulls your eye straight through the grove, just like being there.
