Queensland, Australia
From a helicopter circling 500 feet up in the air, the sheer expanse and magnitude of the Great Barrier Reef becomes evident. I have shot many aerials of the reef, but this time wanted a more abstract feel to my composition. By shooting straight downwards and not including the horizon the image takes on an unusual perspective. The incredible turquoise mosaic of the reef structure dominates the foreground and the overall blue cast adds a startlingly powerful element.

Flying over it felt like watching the ocean breathe. The water clarity in this shot is unreal—you can trace individual reef formations like they're drawn on glass. It's the kind of piece that makes you want to book a flight to Queensland immediately.

That 500-foot perspective really sells it — the water’s color shifts from deep sapphire to pale turquoise in a way that looks almost unreal. I’ve spent time on the reef itself, but this aerial shot captures the sheer scale in a way I haven’t seen before. It’s the kind of piece that makes you stop an

I’ve flown over the reef a dozen times, but this shot really captures that dizzying sense of scale from 500 feet—the water clarity and color depth are unreal. It’s the kind of aerial photo that makes you feel small in the best way.
