Red-stained oak veneer with lacquer is constructed with a core material covered with a thin layer of oak veneer which has undergone a staining process, resulting in a red nuanced surface to alter the natural color of the wood. Varnish is then applied to enhance and protect the appearance.
I was worried the red stain would look cheap in person but it's actually a rich, deep tone that pairs well with my darker floors. The lacquer finish feels smooth to the touch and hasn't picked up any scratches from daily use on my Ready Chair.
The red stain on this oak veneer is way richer in person than the photos suggested, and the lacquer gives it a nice low-sheen finish that doesn't look plasticky at all. Two months of daily use and no chipping or fading yet.
I ordered a couple of the Ready Chairs and the red-stained oak veneer looks even richer in person than on screen. The lacquer finish has held up well against daily coffee spills and wiped clean without leaving any marks.
