Written by our Director of Coffee, Freda Yuan, Sip 'n' Slurp is a book for people who are interested in developing or refining their sensory awareness.

Sensory experiences can be very personal; there is no right or wrong to how we perceive different flavours. This book offers a basic sensory foundation and deconstructs the tasting process bit by bit, then reassembles it with different practical sensory aspects.

The underlying principles in the book are rooted in Buddhism, with a focus on mindfulness in the tasting. Written by our Director of Coffee, Freda Yuan, Sip ‘n’ Slurp provides enough correlation regarding sensorial language structure and cross-modal correspondence to support our day-to-day sensory communications. Ultimately it will enable the reader to speak the same language when describing a coffee.

Christopher J. ★★★★★

The tasting exercises in this book made me slow down and actually notice the texture of each sip, not just the obvious flavors. I’ve read it twice and still catch new details about how to isolate aromas.

Riley ★★★★★

The way Freda breaks down sensory experiences into personal, practical steps is exactly what I needed—it’s not preachy, just genuinely insightful. I’ve already started noticing more detail in my everyday cups, and the slurping technique alone was worth the price.

Lily Y. ★★★★★

I got this for a friend who’s just getting into coffee, and ended up stealing it back to read myself. The way Freda breaks down sensory experiences into personal, practical steps made me notice flavors in my morning brew I’d never picked up on before.
