Black-stained solid oak with lacquer has undergone a staining process, resulting in a black surface to alter the natural color of the wood. Colored varnish is then applied to provide a smooth and glossy surface, adding a layer of protection against wear and moisture.
The lacquer finish on this black-stained oak is what sold me, it's smooth without looking plastic or cheap. Used it on the Merkur dining chairs and the black tone still lets the grain show through. Two months of daily dinners and not a single scratch yet.
