Kyoto, Japan
18 months of preparation led to a Japan photoshoot to remember. The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto was the destination envisioned since the beginning. Shooting for weeks with no rest, the shot was still allusive. Patience was key as the high volume of tourists added to Mother Nature’s unpredictability, her windy conditions caused the bamboo to sway and bend, making the shot impossible to capture. With time running out and only one day remaining, the last night was the final and only opportunity to capture the true zen vibe Japan is renowned for. As night fell a light rain began, enhancing the color of the bamboo and transforming the forest into a truly magical place.

The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove shots are worth the price alone, the light through those stalks is unreal. You can tell the weeks of shooting with no rest went into getting every frame right.

Eighteen months of prep really shows in how the Arashiyama light was captured, especially those early morning frames before the crowds arrive. I've flipped through it three times and keep landing on the same few spreads.

The bamboo grove shots alone are worth the price—the way the light filters through those stalks feels almost surreal. You can tell every frame was carefully planned, and it’s the kind of photography book I’ll keep coming back to.
