The Zodiac Collectibles are a set of miniature ceramic sculptures inspired by the Japanese annual zodiac. From an extruded clay form, each piece is cut by hand, detailed, glazed and fired with care by the skilled craftspeople of Tajimi in the mountains of central Japan. Each Zodiac Collectible is developed in close collaboration with Tajimi Custom Tiles. The Japanese Zodiac operates on a 12 year cycle, with the year of the Snake falling in 2025, 2013, 2001... Product Information: Due to their hand-crafted nature, each piece can vary in size and colour, with discrepancies a mark of their detailed craft process. Each piece is free-standing and roughly 50x50x50mm in size. The Zodiac Collectibles are free standing miniature sculptures.

The little snake’s glaze has such a rich, deep red-brown that it looks almost glossy in sunlight, and the hand-cut details give it real character. I placed mine on my desk and it’s a nice, subtle nod to my birth year without being too obvious.

The hand-cut details show on the snake’s scales, but the red-brown glaze is a bit uneven near the base. It’s a nice little piece for the shelf, though I expected slightly more polish for the price.
