The black stain is deep and even, with just a hint of grain showing through, which is exactly what I wanted. The oiled surface has a matte look that doesn't feel slick or plasticky.
The oiled finish feels smooth without being slick, and the black stain still lets the oak grain show through instead of looking painted on. I've had it a few weeks now and it hasn't picked up fingerprints the way glossy finishes do.
The black stain goes deeper than I expected, so the oak grain still shows through instead of looking painted over. Feels solid and heavy on the Saxe chairs, and the oil finish hasn't picked up any water rings yet.
