David Bowie, wet plate, 1978

I was a bit worried the dark tones might get lost in a print, but the detail in Bowie’s expression and the subtle grain of the wet plate process came through beautifully. It’s already framed and hanging in my hallway.

The wet plate technique gives this portrait such a haunting, dimensional quality—Bowie’s gaze feels almost alive in the silver tones. It’s become the centerpiece of my living room, and every guest stops to ask about it.
