It’s a little piece of natural history you can hold in your hand, which still feels wild to me. The cube’s surface has that deep, rich redness you’d expect from a fossil-adjacent tree, and the finish is smooth enough to keep me fiddling with it on my desk.

The wood grain has this subtle, almost fossil-like depth to it that photographs don't do justice—it feels like holding a piece of history. I keep it on my desk and catch myself just turning it in the light, thinking about that living specimen found in 1941.

I gave this to my brother who's obsessed with prehistoric life, and he immediately zeroed in on the dawn redwood story — that it was known only from fossils until a living one turned up in China in 1941. Wild that something thought extinct for millions of years is now sitting on his desk.
