The harshness of that South Dakota bench land comes through so vividly you can almost feel the wind and dust. The way the four neighbors’ sacrifices and struggles intertwine kept me turning pages late into the night, and the prose is spare but powerful. This is the kind of ranch story that stays wit

I’m from ranching country myself, and this book got the loneliness and stubbornness of that life exactly right. The way it digs into the sacrifices each neighbor makes kept me turning pages long past bedtime.
