The detail in this lion’s mane is incredible—I can see each individual strand and whisker right down to the scars on his face. It feels like the photographer captured more than a picture, more like the animal’s whole presence, and the stark monochrome makes it even more powerful on my wall.

The stark black-and-white treatment really makes every whisker and strand of his mane pop, giving the portrait an almost sculptural feel. I wish the paper stock had a bit more texture to it, but the detail captured here is incredible.
