Robert Mitchum, Santa Barbara CA, 1988

The grain on this print is gorgeous, and the way the cigarette smoke catches the light gives the whole frame a quiet, film-noir mood. I’ve had it up on my wall for a week and keep catching myself staring at the depth in his eyes.

The close-up really captures that contemplative, weary charisma of his — the cigarette in hand adds so much texture to the shot. Printed on heavy matte paper, the blacks are deep and the detail in his face is incredible. It’s been up in my hallway for a week and I still stop to look at it every time
