In alley with torn poster, NYC, Aug. 1979.

DAWN KAMERLING'S STAFF PICKS: I love the colors in this one, with the roughness of the location and the richness of his shirt and his face. Joel really nailed this, this shot is a work of a genius.

That torn poster in the background really sets the mood — the roughness of the alley makes his face and that rich shirt pop even more. I've stared at this print for ten minutes and keep noticing new details.

The colors in this print are exactly what drew me in—that deep richness of his shirt against the gritty alley wall feels so real. It's already framed and hanging in my living room, and every time I walk by I notice some new detail in the torn poster behind him. A perfect capture of that raw NYC mome
