Faye Dunaway first met Jerry Schatzberg when Esquire sent him to Florida for a photo-shoot in 1966. She remembers the event so clearly that she wrote about it in her autobiography, “At one point I began crying because he was being so heartbreakingly kind to me. All my life, I’ve been the sort of person who could shatter easily. . . . Jerry somehow managed to reach me, to let me know that in this I could trust him, that the photos would be wonderful, that it would be okay.”

This image was captured just over a year later, during the shoot for the cover of Newsweek, that appeared on the March 4,1968 issue.

Harper ★★★★★

The story behind this one adds so much depth—knowing Faye wrote about that Esquire shoot in her autobiography makes the photo feel more like a piece of history than just a print. The detail in her expression and posture really comes through in the archival quality, and it’s framed like a proper gall

Sebastian ★★★★★

That shot of Faye Dunaway in the hotel hallway is even more striking in person, and the way the light catches the edge of her coat feels almost cinematic. It’s the perfect conversation piece for my gallery wall, and the archival quality really makes the black-and-white tones pop.
