“The first time I photographed Metallica was when they opened for Ozzy Osbourne on Ozzy’s The Ultimate Sin tour. Metallica had just released Master of Puppets. The record was getting a lot of buzz, and the magazines started requesting shots of the band. I was touring with Ozzy, so I introduced myself to the guys in Metallica and asked if it would be cool if I shot them. I told them I would be on and off the tour and that I would bring them the photos to approve. They liked what they saw, and soon enough we began doing shoots. This was one of the last shoots of Cliff with the band before he tragically died in a bus accident later that year.” — Mark “WEISSGUY” Weiss

The print captures the raw energy of that era perfectly, and the detail in the grain makes it feel like a true archival piece. I framed it in my office and it’s already the conversation starter of the room.

Avery ★★★★★

You can almost feel the sweat and noise of that 1986 Ozzy tour in this shot — the grain and shadow make it look like it was pulled straight from a dark club. This print captures the band right at the moment Master of Puppets was exploding, and you can feel that raw 1986 energy just from the stage lighting and their poses. The archival quality makes it look like it was shot yesterday, which is exactly what I wanted for my music room wall.
