She loved Vogue magazine, especially the French version. Even though she didn't have much money, she shopped at Henri Bendel, an exclusive store on Fifth Avenue. I remember a very expensive green coat that she wanted. She had to have it. It was pure silk. First thing she did when we got back to her apartment was stick the coat in the washing machine. She knew how to make the look completely hers. -- Lynn Goldsmith

That Henri Bendel detail really makes the story feel alive—I love picturing her in that expensive green coat despite being broke. The whole piece captures the gritty, glamorous contrast of 1970s New York perfectly.

The description of her flipping through French Vogue while eyeing that extravagant green coat at Henri Bendel really captures the era's mix of aspiration and grit. It's a compact little piece, but it paints a vivid scene I keep coming back to. Just wish the write-up was a bit longer.
